Valves Keep Blood Moving One Way
Captions available
The idea
The heart's valves keep blood flowing in one direction.
In practice
The tricuspid valve sits on the right between atrium and ventricle, and the mitral valve on the left; semilunar valves guard the exits into the pulmonary trunk and the aorta.
Where people slip
The coronary arteries feed the heart muscle itself, which needs a constant supply of oxygen.
