Feeling for the Vein
Captions available
The idea
Choose a vein by looking and feeling, not by sight alone.
In practice
Look for a vein that is visible, straight and well filled; feel for knobby bumps, which can mean valves, and avoid any spot where you feel a pulse, which is an artery.
Where people slip
Do not insert where veins branch; that raises the chance of a hematoma.
