Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 2 MAS 033 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Three Planes of the Body
Captions available
The idea
The body can be divided by three planes: coronal, sagittal and transverse.
In practice
The coronal, or frontal, plane separates front from back; the sagittal plane separates right from left, and through the midline it is called the median plane; the transverse plane separates upper from lower.
Where people slip
Imaging reports name planes often. Know the three, so you can relay a report without confusing them.
