Blood pressure should be measured after the patient has rested quietly for at least five minutes.
In practice
If the patient had caffeine or nicotine within the past thirty minutes, record that with the reading, since both can affect it.
Where people slip
A patient who rushed in from the parking lot needs those five minutes.
