Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 13 MAS 307 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Korotkoff Sounds
Captions available
The idea
The sounds heard through the stethoscope during a manual reading are called Korotkoff sounds.
In practice
The first clear sound marks the systolic pressure; the point where the sounds disappear completely marks the diastolic pressure.
Where people slip
If you cannot hear the sounds well, do not guess; tell the provider or use another method the practice allows.
