Opening a Sterile Package
The idea
A wrapped sterile kit is opened in a set order, so that your hands and body never pass over the sterile contents.
In practice
Step one: place the kit on a clean, dry surface and check the wrapper and the indicator. Step two: open the first flap away from your body, touching only its outer edge. Step three: open each side flap, one at a time, with one hand, keeping your arm out from over the opened area. Step four: open the last flap toward you, again without leaning over the field. Step five: if you must take something out, such as sterile gloves, reach in with only your fingertips and your elbow raised.
Where people slip
Do not let opened corners flip back onto the sterile area. A corner that springs back over the field contaminates whatever it touches.
