Leading AI at Work: Governance, Rollout and Practice / Unit 5 LAI 113 worked example, 60 to 90 seconds
Drawing the Suggest-or-Decide Boundary
The idea
The gate asks for a clear line between AI suggests and the system decides, and the book gives a way to draw it.
In practice
Step one: list every output the AI produces in the process, including ones that look minor, such as a pre-filled field. Step two: for each output, ask what happens next if nobody looks at it. Step three: anything that would change a decision, a record, a status or a message to a customer without a person sits on the system-decides side. Step four: move everything on that side behind a human approval. Step five: make an exception only where an error would be minor and the team has agreed in writing to automate it.
Where people slip
The second step is the test. An output that sounds advisory but takes effect when nobody looks is a decision, whatever the feature's description calls it.
