Ritual Four: Definition-of-Done Lines
The idea
The fourth ritual adds a few lines to the definition of done, for stories that change a core thing's meaning or behavior.
In practice
Step one: identify the stories that change a core thing, such as a new field, a new state or a changed rule, and leave routine stories alone. Step two: for those stories, add the line: Pack updated, if needed. Step three: add the line: relevant cards created or updated. Step four: add the line: matrix updated, if the thing is Gold. Step five: check the lines at the same review where the story is accepted, so they are not a separate approval.
Where people slip
The lines apply only to stories that plainly affect a thing. Adding them to every story turns a light ritual into paperwork, and teams learn to tick the boxes without reading them.
