Weaving the Method Into Delivery

The idea

The book's aim is not a parallel process but the method built into each stage of delivery a team already runs.

In practice

Step one: in discovery, build or update the inventory and map, name the core and Gold things, and draft at least Bronze or Silver Packs. Step two: in backlog refinement, tag each story's primary things, reference the cards, and log a Pack update task when a story raises new fields or states. Step three: in design, bring Packs into design reviews, and review the matrices of Gold things when making integration decisions. Step four: in implementation and testing, use cards for acceptance criteria and Pack examples as seeds for test data. Step five: after release, re-check the matrices of Gold things and feed any surprises into the next object review.

Where people slip

Testing leads keep the mappings from cards to test suites and from things to regression packs. When something changes, they look the tests up rather than guess, which is the payoff of every earlier step.
