Human Growth and Development / Unit 1   HGD 0061 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Cross-Sectional Designs

Captions available

The idea

A cross-sectional design compares different age groups at a single point in time, such as twelve-, fourteen-, sixteen- and eighteen-year-olds.

In practice

Four age groups tested in the same week, then compared with each other.

Where people slip

It is fast and free of attrition and practice effects, but it cannot track individuals, and cohort effects remain.
