Chromosomes and DNA
Captions available
The idea
Human cells carry forty-six chromosomes in twenty-three pairs; each chromosome is a rod-shaped structure of tightly coiled DNA, a double helix.
In practice
Twenty-three matched pairs lined up, one of each pair from each parent.
Where people slip
DNA is the molecule; a chromosome is DNA coiled into a package. The two words are not interchangeable.
