Jane Austen wrote six novels of the English landed gentry, known for realism, wit and irony. Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park and Emma were published anonymously from eighteen eleven; Northanger Abbey and Persuasion appeared after her death in eighteen seventeen.
