Educational Psychology / Unit 2 EDP 0123 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Random Sampling vs Random Assignment
Captions available
The idea
Random sampling gives everyone in a population an equal chance of being chosen; random assignment gives every participant an equal chance of either condition.
In practice
Drawing names district-wide is sampling; a coin flip for each student's condition is assignment.
Where people slip
Sampling decides who results apply to; assignment decides whether cause can be claimed.
