Samples and Margin of Error
Captions available
The idea
Results generalize from a sample to a population only when the sample is random, and the margin of error shows how far a sample's result might miss.
In practice
Polling four times as many randomly chosen students roughly halves the margin of error.
Where people slip
A margin of error covers chance in sampling, not bias from a convenience sample or from dishonest answers.
