The idea
Validity is the adequacy of the interpretations and uses of scores, not a property of the test; evidence comes from content, construct and criterion relationships, predictive when the criterion comes later.
In practice
A selection test calls for predictive evidence.
Where people slip
A valid measure must be reliable, but a reliable one need not be valid, and face appeal is not evidence.
