Validity: Interpretations and Uses

Captions available

The idea

Validity is the adequacy of the interpretations and uses made of test results for a group, not a property of the test itself, and it is a matter of degree.

In practice

A reading test may support placing students in reading groups but not grading their science.

Where people slip

Ask "valid for what?" rather than "is this test valid?"
