College Composition / Unit 26 CMP 0628 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Narrative and Parenthetical Citations
Captions available
The idea
APA citations come in two forms: narrative, naming the author in the sentence, and parenthetical, placing everything in parentheses.
In practice
Narrative: "According to Thomas," with the year in parentheses right after the name. Parenthetical: the name and year together at the end of the sentence.
Where people slip
In a narrative citation, the year follows the author's name, not the end of the sentence.
