The idea
Very short sentences in a row read as choppy, and a sentence that seems never to end, called labyrinthine, is hard to follow.
In practice
Writers sometimes use either on purpose, for action or for events running together, but in academic writing they more often suggest error.
Where people slip
Aim for a balance of lengths; reading aloud reveals both problems.
