The power rule for logarithms pulls an exponent out front: log_b(Mᵖ) = p · log_b(M).

log₂(8²) = log₂(64) = 6, and 2 · log₂(8) = 2 · 3 = 6 — the exponent steps down to multiply.

The exponent must cover the whole input, not one factor of it.
