Reading the Vertex from Standard Form

State

In standard form a(x − h)² + k, the vertex is (h, k): the inside names h sign-flipped, the outside names k.

(x − 2)² − 1 has vertex (2, −1); (x + 3)² + 5 hides h = −3, vertex (−3, 5).
