The Distributive Property

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

The distributive property multiplies a factor across a sum: a(b + c) = ab + ac.

Show

4(10 + 2) equals 4 · 10 + 4 · 2, which is 40 + 8 = 48 — the same as 4 · 12.

Watch for

Distribution runs multiplication over addition, never addition over multiplication.

Builds on

  • Nothing — this is a starting point.

Unlocks

  • Nothing yet depends on this.
