The Associative Properties

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

The associative properties say grouping does not change a sum or a product: (a + b) + c = a + (b + c), and (ab)c = a(bc).

Show

(2 + 3) + 5 and 2 + (3 + 5) both reach 10; the parentheses moved and nothing else did.

Builds on

  • Nothing — this is a starting point.

Unlocks

  • Nothing yet depends on this.
