The idea
The inverse property of addition says a + (−a) = 0; the inverse property of multiplication says a · (1/a) = 1 for nonzero a.
In practice
6 + (−6) returns the additive identity, 0; 6 · (1/6) returns the multiplicative identity, 1.

Zero has no multiplicative inverse.
