Solubility rules are an empirical classification scheme naming which ionic compounds are generally soluble or insoluble in water.

All common nitrate salts are soluble, but most common carbonate salts, apart from the group 1 metals and ammonium, are insoluble.
Watch for
Skipping a listed exception, such as ammonium among carbonates, misapplies a solubility rule as if it had none.
