Neutralization Reactions

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

A neutralization reaction combines an acid with a base, other than water itself, to produce a salt and usually water.

Show

Milk of magnesia's Mg(OH)2 neutralizes stomach acid, HCl, producing magnesium chloride and water as the reaction's two products.

Watch for

"Salt" here names any ionic compound formed this way, not specifically table salt — the term is broader than its kitchen meaning.
