Writing a Chemical Equation

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

A chemical equation places reactant formulas left of an arrow and product formulas to its right, with coefficients showing relative amounts.

Show

Methane burning in oxygen is written CH4 + 2O2 → CO2 + 2H2O, a 1-to-2-to-1-to-2 ratio of reactants to products.

Watch for

Treating a coefficient-less formula as zero, or forgetting its implied 1 while tallying atoms, undercounts the atom count.
