Structural Isomers Defined

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Structural, or constitutional, isomers share the same molecular formula but differ in how their atoms are connected to each other.

Show

n-Butane and 2-methylpropane both have formula C4H10, but one is unbranched and the other has a branch.

Watch for

Two Lewis structures drawn differently on paper are not automatically different isomers — the same chain drawn straight, bent, or coiled is one molecule.
