Manometer

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

A manometer measures a trapped gas's pressure from the height difference between its two liquid columns.

Show

A closed-end manometer references a vacuum; an open-end manometer references the atmosphere and must add or subtract atmospheric pressure.

Watch for

Ignoring which arm holds the reference, vacuum or atmosphere, gives the wrong gas pressure from the same height reading.
