The idea
The Golgi apparatus is a stack of flattened sacs that sorts, tags, and packages the lipids and proteins the ER delivers to it.
In practice
Vesicles from the ER fuse with the Golgi's cis face; tagged proteins bud off from its opposite trans face.
Where people slip
Cis and trans name entry and exit points of one continuous stack, not separate structures.
