The idea
The cytoplasm is the entire region between the plasma membrane and the nuclear envelope, made of organelles suspended in the gel-like cytosol.
In practice
Though cytoplasm is 70 to 80 percent water, dissolved proteins give it a semi-solid consistency rather than a watery one.
Where people slip
Cytosol names the fluid alone; cytoplasm names that fluid together with everything suspended in it.
