A root tip divides into three zones: cell division nearest the tip, elongation directly behind it, and maturation where cells differentiate into specialized types.

The zone of elongation lengthens a growing root by stretching newly formed cells, not by dividing them further.
Watch for
All three zones sit within roughly the first centimeter of the root tip — a pattern compressed into little space.
