Most viral infections proceed through six steps in order: attachment, entry, uncoating, replication, assembly, and release of new virions.

A bacteriophage attaches, injects its genome, replicates inside the host, assembles new phages, then lyses the cell to release them.
Watch for
Skipping a step, such as failing to uncoat the genome, halts the cycle — a virus cannot replicate past a blocked step.
