The idea
A prediction states what should happen if a hypothesis is true, usually in an if-then form.
In practice
If compacted soil is the cause, then loosening the soil around the roots should stop the daily wilting.
Where people slip
A prediction commits to a specific, checkable outcome — not a vague expectation of improvement.
