Splicing and the Spliceosome

Splicing removes a pre-mRNA's introns and joins its exons together, carried out by a large RNA-protein complex called the spliceosome.

The spliceosome recognizes each intron's boundary sequences, cuts the intron out, and ligates the flanking exons directly together.
Watch for
Splicing acts only on introns identified by specific boundary sequences — it does not remove any exon sequence in the process.
