Nucleotide Excision Repair

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Nucleotide excision repair removes a damaged DNA stretch, such as one from ultraviolet light, and resynthesizes it from the intact complementary strand.

Show

UV damage that distorts the helix is cut out on both sides, and DNA polymerase and ligase fill and seal the gap.

Watch for

This pathway repairs damage from an external source such as UV — mismatch repair already handles replication errors.
