The Nucleotide

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

A DNA nucleotide is built from a deoxyribose sugar, a phosphate group, and one of four nitrogenous bases: adenine, thymine, guanine, or cytosine.

Show

Alternating sugar and phosphate groups form each strand's backbone, with one base attached to each sugar.

Watch for

A nucleotide's base identifies it — the sugar and phosphate are identical across all four DNA nucleotide types.
