Three re-reads from earlier units, unassisted. First, b to the power d — the root is a raised label, so the frame is "something multiplied along levels": the count of plans, b choices repeated over d steps. Second, the path score from informed search — the root is a definition with a plus in it, so the frame is "one thing defined as a sum of two": a path's score is its spent cost plus its endpoint's estimated remainder. Third, the rule form — the root is an arrow, so the frame is "conclude something whenever conditions hold": conclude the head whenever every body condition is established. Same method three times: root first, frame second, parts last — and a formula that resisted left-to-right reading opens in seconds.
