Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 6   AIL 0515 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Iambic Tetrameter

Captions available

The idea

The glossary gives iambic tetrameter as a line with four beats, quoting Wordsworth: I wandered lonely as a cloud. Four beats runs closer to song than five does, which is why ballads and hymns favour it. The anchor's own regular-verse chapter uses that poem.

In practice

Four beats, nearer to song.

Where people slip

Ballads and hymns live here.
