Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 6 AIL 0509 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Three-Syllable Feet
Captions available
The idea
Two feet run to three syllables rather than two, and they are opposites of each other. Both produce a rolling, galloping line quite unlike iambic speech. The glossary defines one of them and refers to the other without defining it, which the next entries repair.
In practice
Two feet, three syllables each.
Where people slip
The glossary defines only one of them.
