The idea
Lowell came from a Boston family that traced its roots to the Mayflower, won the Pulitzer for Lord Weary's Castle, then changed course. Life Studies, of nineteen fifty-nine, mixed free and metered verse and brought an intense discussion of personal, family and psychological struggle into American poetry.
