Literal Equations

The idea

A literal equation, such as a formula, is solved for one variable in terms of the others, using the same inverse operations.

In practice

Solving d = rt for t gives t = d/r. Solving A = P + Prt for r gives r = (A − P)/(Pt).

Where people slip

Treat every other letter as a fixed number while isolating the one you want.
