ACT Preparation / Unit 9 ACT 0811 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Point-Slope and Standard Form
Captions available
The idea
Point-slope form, y − y₁ = m(x − x₁), builds a line from a point and a slope; standard form is Ax + By = C.
In practice
Slope 2 through (3, 1): y − 1 = 2(x − 3), or y = 2x − 5.
Where people slip
A point (−3, 4) gives y − 4 = m(x + 3).
