ACT Preparation / Unit 9 ACT 0801 short lesson, about 20 seconds
The Coordinate Plane and Intercepts

The idea
A point is an ordered pair (x, y). The x-intercept is where a graph crosses the x-axis, found by setting y = 0; the y-intercept, by setting x = 0.
In practice
For 2x + 3y = 12: y = 0 gives x = 6, and x = 0 gives y = 4.
Where people slip
An intercept is a point: (6, 0), not 6 alone.
