ACT Preparation / Unit 1   ACT 0005 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Compound Sentence: Comma and Conjunction

Captions available

The idea

A compound sentence joins independent clauses of equal weight. The first way is a comma plus a coordinating conjunction: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so, remembered as FANBOYS.

In practice

"The oven was hot, so the bread baked fast."

Where people slip

The conjunction does the joining. A comma alone between two independent clauses is the comma splice of video 0013.
