ACT Preparation / Unit 22 ACT 2103 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Cellular Respiration
Captions available
The idea
Cellular respiration makes ATP using the chemical energy in glucose and other nutrients. In mitochondria, it uses oxygen and produces carbon dioxide as a waste product.
In practice
Muscle cells, which need a great deal of energy, are packed with mitochondria.
Where people slip
Respiration runs roughly opposite to photosynthesis: glucose and oxygen go in; carbon dioxide comes out.
