Sampling Methods
Captions available
The idea
A simple random sample gives every group of the same size an equal chance. Stratified sampling draws randomly within subgroups; cluster sampling takes whole groups; systematic sampling takes every kth member.
In practice
Choosing 5 students at random from each grade is stratified; choosing two whole classrooms is cluster sampling.
Where people slip
A convenience sample, whoever is easiest to reach, is not random.
