The idea
A box plot shows the five-number summary: minimum, first quartile, median, third quartile and maximum. The box holds the middle half of the data.
In practice
A box from 40 to 70 with a line at 55: the median is 55, and the middle half of the data lies from 40 to 70.
Where people slip
A box plot does not show the mean.
