The idea

In seven fifty a clan from Muhammad's uncle, backed by non-Arab Muslims, the mawali, massacred the Umayyads; one survivor founded Cordoba's line. The Abbasids moved the capital to Baghdad, and Harun al-Rashid, seven eighty-six to eight oh nine, exchanged gifts with Charlemagne.

In practice

Muslim universalism over Arab privilege, the anchor's phrase.

Where people slip

Enlightened despotism is the anchor's characterization. Attribute.
