Three Consequences: Italian Money, Crusading Ideology, Intolerance
Captions available
The idea
The anchor names three consequences. Venice, Genoa and Pisa grew rich as transporters and bankers, the Renaissance's site. Crusading ideology passed to explorers, the Reconquista ending in fourteen ninety-two, Columbus's year. And Christianity became harsher and more intolerant, with anti-Jewish violence.
In practice
Crusaders massacring Jews on the way east.
Where people slip
The harshening is the anchor's judgment, attributed. The massacres are the record.
