The Phases Across a Project

Captions available

The idea

The book maps the five phases onto familiar project stages, showing where each phase carries the most weight.

In practice

Step one, discovery: lean heavily on phase one, the things and the map, with a few example cards from phase two. Step two, early design: phase two ramps up, phase three begins for the core things, and the first validation sessions cover the most critical ones. Step three, build: cards keep arriving as behavior emerges, Packs and validation loop for the things each increment touches, and traceability starts for high-risk things as designs settle. Step four, go-live and operations: validation returns as real feedback reveals gaps, and traceability is used for every change request and policy update.

Where people slip

Every phase recurs; what changes from stage to stage is the weight each one carries.
